Recently, Paul has been memorizing Romans 8. We know he would want you to share in the joy of the Truth he has been pondering.
"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit. " Romans 8:1-4

The family would love to hear from you. Please leave your prayers and comments here!
When I was an undergraduate, I was somewhat obnoxious (I know, hard to believe). I attended SLT, a month long leadership camp, in 1991(?). The next summer I applied to work on "crew" at Cedar Campus and never heard back. Apparently my application got shuffled from person to person like a hot potato until it ended up on Paul's desk.
Anyway, I called to ask about the status of my application and talked with Paul (who I didn't really know at the time). He said to me "Quite frankly, we all remember you from SLT and we aren't sure you are the type of person we want on crew." Ouch. Well, somehow I convinced him that I had matured (at least a little), and he took a chance and hired me.
Working for Paul was one of the best things that has ever happened in my life. He showed confidence in me (often saying "my hands are off the store") in a way that almost nobody else ever has. To be sure, I didn't always do the right thing, but he was always very supportive.
Elizabeth and Family, I was very saddened to hear of this tragic accident. I am keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this most difficult time in your life. Just goes to show you have to live life to the fullest and make the best of every situation. Sounds like your dad was such an inspiration in life and a true man. I hope your mother has a speedy recovery as well.
Prayers are with you at this time. I knew your family during my SLT year (1993) and am praying for your mom and all of you. Your family has touched so many through the years.
Like Chuck, I also worked with Paul for three summers in the early 1990's. Paul was a great influence on me--I learned so much from him about work, responsibility, and what it meant to be a man of God. He was one of the most patient and gentle people I've ever known. When I think of how he continued to employ me and mentor me over three summers, how generous his was with others, I realize how lucky his children were to have such a man as a father. I also dearly remember his sense of humor--at one point I did a pretty good impression of Paul, which he had the grace to find funny!
I know there are dozens of other people who have been influenced by Paul, whose lives have been made better by his friendship. My heart is broken, but I rejoice that I was able to know Paul.
I can testify that Chuck matured, probably under Paul's guidance! ;) I had the pleasure of working under Paul, with Chuck Cusack, Pete Mills, and Kirsten Johnsen (now Schwartz) as store crew in 1993. Can someone really be such a father figure with whom you only worked for a few precious weeks? In my case, the answer is obviously yes.
I remember the pride I felt when Paul showed his confidence in me. After I returned from SLT to crew that summer, Kirsten (the store manager) was gone. I asked Paul who would be the manager. He said, with a glint in his eye, "Oh, I have just the right person in mind." I asked "Who?" and he told me "You." :)
Paul was such a legendary servant at Cedar Campus even before I got to know him well, that when I met his oldest daughter Sarah her freshman year at the U of M, I embarrassed her with "OH! You're Paul Foster's daughter!" Surely that's no embarrassment now, and never should be.
Elaine told me once that she had prayed for my wife Rebecca before either of us had ever met her. I wouldn't be the husband, father, or person I should be without Rebecca. Looking at Paul and Elaine's four children, seeing the men and women they've become, I can only hope I'm even half the father to my sons that Paul was to his children (though I know his children would eagerly share more stories of his humanity than his idealization!) :)
The Fosters will always be one of my favorite families in the world, and the loss of Paul is like a sliver of my heart being taken out. I wish Elaine, his children, their spouses, and the grandchildren, and all of us, a vision of Paul being welcomed into glory with cheers, hugs, and the words of his Savior: "Well done, my good and faithful servant!" :_)
Long live Paul's memory with us! Love to the Foster clan always.
We here in Mexico are in total shock. Paul and Elaine left spiritual legacy in our soil, impacting lives with their candor and service. They received Mexicans at Cedear Campus, and visitors from Mexico when we passed through. They always prayed for us, sent us kids one summer, and we had plans to travel to the Mid East, a TRIP of a life time, Greece, Turkey, Syria, Jordan and Israel. I´m so sad! We love our memories we have of them, and will be praying for Elaine and the children.
Liz and family, I found out the news about your dad today from Kelly. I'm so sorry for your loss. I was brought to tears looking at the slide show and hearing how events unraveled. You just never know God's plans. What a joy, though, to be able to rest assured at night knowing your father is with our Father now. Sometimes that feels like the only good thing in a tragedy like this. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
1 Cor. 15:54 Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled: "Death is swallowed up in victory.
The news of this accident and Paul's death felt like a punch in the stomach to us. Our hearts are heavy over this loss. We have so many fond memories of working with Paul at Cedar Campus. What a wonderful example of a faithful servant he was to us all. We have been praying for you continually since we received the news. We plan to come for the Memorial Service. May our Great God be your comfort and may he sustain you through this difficult time. We know that our loss is his gain, for to be with Christ is far better.
I am very sorry to hear about Paul Foster's death. I remember Paul and his family from Cedar Campus from 1991 when I visited them in their house there. If I remember well, he shared that his origin is from my area in Croatia. I remember I had very good fellowship and time of sharing with Paul and his family.

We are quite saddened to have the news about Paul's fatal accident. He was such a kind and gentle person, loving and caring about everyone. Our love and prayers to Elaine for many kinds of healing and peace.
I am not sure whether I ever met Paul, but I knew his son Daniel well from his years at Hope College. I send to Dan and all the family my deepest sympathy and assurance of prayers on your behalf. May the comforting presence of the Holy Spirit reach all the way to the depths of your grief.
When I was at Cedar Campus for summer crew, both in 1993 and 1994, I felt very welcomed by each and everyone there. Even when I did not interact that much with Paul and Elaine (I was at Mariners Cove' Kitchen crew) can remember they always had a nice and right word to say and that way made me feel not missing much Spain.
But the hazy nice memories I have of Paul is always a responsible person, listening always and caring for everyone's needs, just acting a little like a father for all young crew there. Now I can think of his spouse Elaine, and hope that God will take care of her and give her physical and emotional strength, and also think of their children and grandchildren. My greetings and condolences to them.
I also think, as someone has said, I am glad to have met him. And I am sure that now that he is before God, he must have heard that of "Well done my good servant".
I worked with Paul, Chuck, and Kelly Harmon for the first part of my summer on crew in 98. I was also in the Foster's family group and loved them to death. Paul was a wonderful guy and will be missed. I'm praying for all of you!
I'm so very sorry to hear about your loss. I knew Paul as the father of my friend Elizabeth, so I was often part of a large group of noisy girls in his home. Looking back I recall him as a bit stoic but as a good and tolerant father. It's clear from the photos he was a wonderful and loving grandfather, too.
I'm sure you all are as blessed to have had him in your lives and to have him in your hearts as he surely was blessed with such a beautiful family.
I'm still so shocked by the new. I just want to transmit my love and support to all the Fosters and the great CC family. When I think about Paul, the first image is him challenging us to visit the book store of CC to get some great stuff and recomending us not to leave without getting something for our personal grow. That's just a little view of the care he felt for the others. I thank God for Paul's life, and pray He gives you the comfort in this sad time. A big and loving hug. Joni Alonso (Barcelona)
I will really miss Mr. Foster teaching Shop class. He was a great guy and always helped anyone who was in need. Rest in peace Mr. Foster, and my prayers go out to your family.
I worked with Paul in the Cedar Campus office for 4 years in the early 90's.
He used to make fun of my coffee making abilities... rightly so. But he and I got along really well... similar dry senses of humor. He and Landa and Mike and I had some good times. He was patient and kind to me even when I was losing my mind on Saturdays.
My favorite memories of him are the winter days when he'd close the office when there was black ice. We'd all get our skates; or, in his case, the ice boat, and head out in the twilight of mid afternoon.
I am so grateful to have known him. And grateful that his influence is alive and well in so many, many people.
Mr. Foster was my yearbook advisor last year, and I was one of his editors. He stepped up to the plate, taking on a job he knew little about. We worked together everyday to assure that the Onekama yearbook was published. I know he didn't always like it, and he was the only man for the job, but he was just as dedicated as I was. He knew that the students came first, and he went out of his way to help the yearbook. That year we produced an amazing yearbook, and it would not have been possible without Mr. Foster's dedication.
Here is the link to the facebook page, in his memory: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=127201277294766&ref=mf
I was lucky enough to get to know Paul these last several years that he has been in Onekama. He has played such an important role in our church family in many different ways. He has been called upon many times to fill the pulpit on Sunday mornings when our pastor has been out of town or when we were without a pastor. He served as chair and moderator of our church board and several years as a Sunday school teacher. Paul would be the first to tell you that he couldn't sing a lick but he would be there with Elaine every Sunday morning before Sunday school helping her lead the children in song. And what are we going to do without him to man our sound system when it gives us problems. He has been such an important part of our congregation it will take many to do his work.
The most amazing thing about Paul to me was how smart the man was. A lot of people now a little bit about a lot of things but Paul was always surprising me by how much he knew about so many things. Besides the work he did, his vast storehouse of knowledge will also be missed.
Paul also showed me a great example of how to handle adversity in these last few months. Some people were making life difficult for him but his perseverance did not waver. I think it was his faith that carried him through this, a great faith that all of us should aspire to achieve. I will try and remember the courage and conviction that he used to get him through this difficult time if my life is ever put to such a test.
Our sympathy and love. He was a wonderful wonderful person. We named our first son Paul. I am so sorry. - Sharon & George Sparks (Part of the Reedley, CA congregation back in the day when all you kids were young.)
Our InterVarsity days on staff together are long ago. Our time brief but we started our families about the same time....reconnected at Cedar Campus when our kids were little at Pastor's Conference. For sure the world's loss is heaven's gain. Prayers for comfort, peace and healing for Elaine. Our love, Pat and Keith Bulthuis
I am so sorry, so very sorry to learn of this news and your pain. Paul and Elaine were very welcoming to me and my husband David when David joined IVCF staff---and they were pretty much instrumental in endearing Cedar Campus to us. Though my husband David is no longer on staff, we have been returning every year to Cedar Campus for the past 16 years. We will always feel connected to the Fosters because of our last name, their son David's identical name to my husband's (and the potential for postal mail mix-up) and because of the very special way Paul introduced us to Gloria Taylor Lodge for my first visit to Cedar Campus.
May our gracious and ever-loving God grant you his peace now, tomorrow, and always,
Some of my fondest memories of Paul are sitting with him and Annie in the back room of the MC Kitchen eating lunch sitting on whatever we could find. We would philosophize about life while laughing or "humph"ing. I was ready to move to Cedar Campus at that time, but Paul said, "No, you have more to do." And he was right. I am at Cedar Campus now because it is God's timing, not mine.
At the moment I don't know the exact date when Rusty and I visited Paul and Elaine in CA to see if he might be God's choice for being the CEDAR CAMPUS Manager. Ultimately after prayer and discussion Paul accepted the offer and moved the family to Michigan.
The Fosters were on site long after I retired as Camp Director. And even after the Fosters left C/C we kept in touch. So it was a real shock to hear of his homegoing. It will not be possible for us to attend the memorial service since Gladys (Rusty) has been in hospital since Feb 22. Slowly she is now improving, and in her hospital room yesterday we prayed for the Fosters.
May you be encouraged to realize that folks are remembering you and lifting you up to the throne of God as he ministers his grace.
"The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory." Romans 8:16-17
I remember Paul as the Director of Cedar Campus back in the late 1990's. Paul had a very calm spirit about him as Director. Paul was a man after God's own heart. He loved the Lord in the way he lived. God bless the Foster family. May Jesus be glorified through Paul's life. Love from the Dickmeyers,
Paul was such an inspiration to me. He and Elaine brought my daughter to Christ, which in turn brought our whole family to being baptized together. Paul has touched so many people in oh so many ways that he has spread Christ through his love and compassion. He will be greatly missed.
Two of the years my husband and I attended Valentine's Weekend at CC, Paul and Elaine were the speakers. I so enjoyed listening to them, and getting to know them better. Paul, you will be greatly missed.
When we first knew Fosters were coming to Cedar Campus, Barb Walker told me she thought I'd get along fine with Paul because we had the same sense of humor. She was right. That helped us through good times and bad.... he was a great boss for nearly 20 years. The Fosters have been wonderful friends to so many and that includes us. My mom always appreciated Paul too and we both liked to hear him preach. We really can't believe he won't see him again on earth--but know that he is in the best place now (and possibly an IV reunion).
For Elaine and kids and grandkids(who were so greatly loved and enjoyed by Paul)--I am praying the Lord is around you in the special closeness He has for times as these--and will continue to hold you always.
Dear Elaine, I'm praying for you so much, for healing and peace. You and Paul have always been such wonderful examples of God's reaching out to others. You trusted me as a new Christian to babysit Sarah at your house on Green Lake in Seattle and what a joyful time for a lonely freshman. You both were always encouraging and pushing students to think more about what we were studying in the Bible and translating it to our lives. Thanks for your faithful service in the Lord and example to all those who connect with you. I visited Jeff in NY last week and visited his church. Pastor Tim Keller preached on Jesus as a true friend. Two characteristics Jesus showed us are vulnerable transparency and sacrificial loyalty and you both have shown these characteristics and invested in many people's lives as true friends. I'm so shocked and sad and yet so thankful for our bond in Christ and the joy and hope He gives us to see our loved ones again with Him. Thanks for being true friends. Get well soon, dear friend. I love you, Mina
I praise God for Paul's life. I keep some great memories in my heart of the several times I was at Cedar Campus. May the Lord give you peace as you face the loss. Much love,
Elizabeth and I have been friends for most of our lives. I think I spent just as much time at the Foster home as I did my own, and if I wasn't at their house I was tying up their phone line. I always felt welcome in that house that was full of laughter and love. It was a blessing to be able to sit and talk with Paul and Elaine at Elizabeth's wedding this past year. Paul and I actually got to the truth of the great ferret incident of 96, and had a pretty good laugh over it:) He had a wonderful sense of humor and such a gentle nature. He had to with all the chaos that a certain group of girls brought into his home:) He will be missed. To Elaine, Sarah, Daniel, David and my dear friend Elizabeth I send my love and prayers to you. Tammie (Tassier) Start
To Elaine and the kids, and also the spouses and grandkids I've never met, I am so sorry for your loss, but so elated for Paul that he is enjoying really being with Jesus and experiencing heaven. Wow!
As I think of Paul, I remember how those who knew him respected him, and those who got to know him better loved him. I experienced both.
And Paul was such a servant. Whether friends, families, students, chuch folks, and all at Cedar Campus, we were served by Paul. I, and my family, received that. Not because it was expected or his job, but because it was Paul. And, like Jesus, he was a servant leader.
I worked with Paul for seven years in the mid-eighties and have stayed in touch since. What a pleasure to know and love him for 25 years.
Death is not okay. It isn't supposed to be this way. Elaine and family, we grieve with you and your loss is so great. But we know the One who triumphed over death and we will all see Paul again. We have that confidence together.
Mrs. Foster and family, Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. We are all deeply saddened by the loss of Mr. Foster. He was such a great role model for my kids (and all the kids) at Onekama School and at Church of the Brethren. We will miss him, The Laws Family
My thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time. I grew up with the Deal and Joseph families in the same time frame as Elaine. I only got to know Paul through occasional conversations at Onekama COB or family events. I quickly learned that I liked Paul's gentle and caring approach to life. It is sad that everyone has to leave their Earthly existence. At least we have the memories that live on in our minds, and my memories of Paul are all good ones. I also pray that Elaine will make a quick and full recovery. With sympathy and love, Toby Emrick
Two things I recall very happily about Mr. Foster. One was the thrill I felt riding across the ice of Lake Huron in between Wayside and Whitefish point on an ice boat he built. The second was when I was watching a sunset across the inner bay with him from the porch of the rec hall. He turned to me and said "don't need any surround sound to enjoy this!" (or something to that effect). This simple unassuming comment cut to my spirit and exposed the emptiness of a life spent in front of a screen (duh). Paul Foster showed me real life, especially outdoors life, is just that REAL life.
May he rest in the peace of Christ. May God bless all the Fosters.

I worked in the Cedar office in 07-08 and remember fondly the Foster family (and smile to remember the other Fosters as well - still get them mixed up in my head sometimes) but with Paul's sudden passing I am reminded of my own father's unexpected homegoing the year before I started working at Cedar. My heart aches for you all. I know the pain you feel will continue to affect you long after his passing begins to fade in most of our memories.
Although I don't know you well, I am praying for you and glad to know that my dad has some new sage company up there in a place where there is no more sorrow.
We were so saddened to hear of Paul's passing. We truly enjoyed our visits with him, though we didn't know him long. Our thoughts and prayers are with Elaine and family during her healing and their grieving. May the grace and peace of God be with all.
I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. Our prayers are with you all (including a speedy recovery for your mom!) in this horribly difficult time. I see that Paul was fond of Romans 8. Read the entire chapter...it's one I cling to in difficult times like this.
It was with shock and terrible sadness that we learned of Paul’s tragic passing after we returned from a trip to Mississippi.
We have so many memories of a servant leader and a wonderful example and influence. Paul was dedicated to excellence and committed to his work.
He was an integral part of the Cedar Campus team for so many years and they all worked well together to make the Cedar Campus experience what it was.
Yet, he still had time for fun, particularly in the winter at the International Student Houseparty. Members of our family experienced skimming along on his wind powered ice boat over the black ice of Prentiss Bay. What a thrill!
Paul’s premature passing leaves us to mourn his loss and to pray for his wonderful family. He will be missed but not forgotten.
We grieve deeply the loss of a good man and a good friend. The posts on this page speak to the many lives that Paul touched -- and none more deeply than his wife, his children and his grandchildren (the photos are a wonderful illustration of this). His memory (and his wit and wisdom) will remain with us.
For Elaine and the family, may the God of all comfort hold you in his loving arms.
We are grieving with you all in the sudden accident and death of Paul. How quickly things happen!
A host of memories come to mind as we remember the many years we've known him since coming to Cedar Campus in the early 80s. Paul was the greeter, the first responder to all needs at camp, the "go to" person for ANY question, always taking time to answer no matter how many "things were on his plate". We always enjoyed his Introduction to camp, and his announcements and "daily specials in the bookstore".
He truly served campers, staff and volunteers, patiently teaching the endless "turnover tasks", cleaning bathrooms and more. He knew alot about all workings of the camp; he also had a Servant Heart for campers to meet God in a meaningful way, whether at work, study or play. He was always gracious and kind, and had an infectious laugh and dry sense of humor.
Larry always appreciated his woodworking suggestions, and special loaning of private tools. I was always grateful for his knowledge of each building's furnishing and sewing/ repair needs.
Elaine, we pray for good recovery for you and God's special comfort and Presence in the days ahead. We know that God is never surprised by these events and will certainly bring Glory to His name through Paul's life AND death.
Joe and I are so saddened by the news of Paul's passing. We have such wonderful memories of spending time with Paul and Elaine at Cedar Campus. Paul was truly a servant and loved to hear news of ministry happenings at Wayne State University with international students when we were there during the 80's. We are praying for Elaine's full recovery as well as knowing God's care during this time of grief.
Our hearts are deeply saddened by your loss. We pray that God will continue to hold and carry your family during this time. The Peace of Christ be with you.
Paul was a wonderful friend and mentor during my time at Cedar Campus. Our shared sense of humor made working together fun. At the same time, it was always clear that Paul always sought to find the best in every situation, even when he was frustrated. I must confess my regret that I spent too little time maintaining that friendship in these intervening years since he left C/C, but his impact on me has continued to the extent that Paul's words of wisdom (and occasional humor) leave my lips far more often than even my own father's.
Elaine, Sara, Daniel, Elizabeth & David - Please accept my most sincere condolences. I know in these times it is hard to understand God's ways. But remember, no amount of grief will last in light of the eternal glory and riches in heaven Paul is enjoying now. The best comfort is knowing that in God's own time we will see him again in glory.
Meanwhile, I hope to see you soon - to spend some time remembering together.
Your friend, Jay Mumper
PS. I'm so sorry I forgot to include Elizabeth in my first post! I'll blame old age for my negligence!
Liz, Dave, Erin, Elaine-- My prayers are with all of you. It has been a blessing to continue to know your family, not only from and during Cedar Campus seasons, but on campus and as partners on staff. You have been a family of delightful and godly influencers...I pray that this shocking new season allows more of Jesus to cover your hearts and minds with His presence in walking through this grieving and recovery.
In sadness, I rejoice with you that Paul is now receiving the reward of his faithful life with Jesus, but share your sadnesses as well at his loss as a dear father, husband and friend.
Again, many prayers are with you all. Love in Jesus, Michelle Perrigo (Meesch)
I am so sorry for the deep loss of Paul! We are praying for your sorrows and for your healing Elaine. I got the call on my way home from Cedar. Marc Papai and I prayed over the phone has he told me. I plan on being with you on Saturday. I have a thousand memories scrolling through my heart and head of all the years I have had the honor of knowing you all ~ rocking and holding some of you, reading poetry aloud, singing hymns, marveling at Mom's gardens, Dad's ice-sailing boat and what came to the back window on those nights when we would be in the living room and the stars that Dad always marveled at....He loved the King and all His creations.....
We grieve with you at the loss of your father. Having read the details surrounding the accident and the stories of your dad's impact on so many lives, we are shaken by the unforeseen and unexplainable accident, grateful for the evidence of God's grace in both your dad's life and in the way that death could not keep him from his greatest victory, and heavy hearted that you and so many others must now feel the pain of losing, for a time, this dearly loved, Godly man who has had such an impact.
Dear Elaine, My heart breaks for you, knowing all that you have yet to face. But God is enough. He will comfort you on the darkest days and care tenderly for you. I have many good memories of Paul, a godly servant of our Lord Jesus Christ. What joy he now knows as he is with his Lord. To Sarah, Daniel, Elizabeth, Dave, and your spouses/children: It is hard to lose a beloved Dad. My heart hurts for you too. May His grace and peace rest upon you. Love, Bev Thompson
I served as pastor of First Union Church for three years. During that time Paul served as elder/teacher. I as appreciated Paul's insight and wisdom when it came to any issue. My family and I would like to express our sympathies to the entire Foster family. Letting you all know that you are in our prayers and thoughts and that one day we will all be rejoicing together around the throne of God.
I loved working with and for Paul at Cedar. The one thing that keeps coming back to me most about that time is his reprimand: The three of us in the store were not taking care of things as well as he wanted, so we had a meeting in the back and he let us know is dissatisfaction. The thing was that by the end of it, I knew we had been reamed for slacking, but I had a grin on my face and did not feel ashamed or anything. His reprimand didn't sound like a reprimand, but you clearly knew what he wanted. To this day, this amazes me. It's just one tidbit of one of the best men I've had the privilege to know.
Dear Dave & Erin and the Foster Family. Yesterday it was mentioned in church about your Dad going home to his Lord and Mom being in the hosp. So many people came up to Grandpa and me after the service and expressed their sympathy to all of you and saying that they'll all be in prayer for you. It was a big outpouring of love for you all, and their thoughts and prayers are with your mom, for what she is going thru. The folks at Palos Hts. CRC really are being there for you and the family. Love to you and Erin and Stella. Gram K.
Mr. Foster was an inspiration to me as well as a friend. I thank God that he gave me the privilage of knowing this brother "in Christ". I had him for Shop since he started teaching at Onekama. He taught me to put my heart into the work that I did in shop. When I learned of his graduation I felt a since of joy as well as that of sadness. The Joy that I felt was that of reassurance that one day I will meet him in the air. The sadness that I felt was that as a loss of a good friend. I thank God as well for the power of prayer. I know that if it weren't for his intercedding I would have been thrown into a state of which I could never imagine. This leads me to think of John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever beleveith in him should not perish but have everlasting life." ,and I rest in the fact that one day that I will meet him again. My Heart and Prayers go out to the Family and friends.
For all the saints who from their labours rest, Who Thee by faith before the world confessed, Thy name, O Jesus, be fore ever blest. Hallelujah!
Thou wast their rock, their fortress, and their might; Thou, Lord, their captain in the well-fought fight; Thou, in the darkness drear, their one true light. Hallelujah!
O may Thy soldiers, faithful, true and bold, Fight as the saints who nobly fought of old, And win, with them, the victor's crown of gold. Hallelujah!
O blest communnion, fellowship divine! We feebly struggle, they in glory shine; Yet all are one in Thee, for all are Thine. Hallelujah!
And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long, Steals on the ear the distant triumph song, And hearts are brave again, and arms are strong. Hallelujah!
But, lo! there breaks a yet more glorious day; The saints triuphant rise in bright array; The King of glory passes on His way. Hallelujah!
From earth's wide bounds, from ocean's farthest coast, Through gate of pearl stream in the countlass hoasst, Singing to Father, son and Holy Ghost. Hallelujah!
We could tell Paul enjoyed working with his wood shop students. On May 13th he asked me to post an article and photos of their accomplishments. We are all going to miss him. ~Barb Eldridge http://www.onekama.k12.mi.us/h2010/Mr.Foster/Index.htm
We knew Paul in the early years in Fresno before Cedar -- so sorry to hear of his passing, especially the manner of it. Our hearts go out to Elaine and the family.
My Cedar Campus / Paul Foster experience began with Campus Christian Living right out of high school, then carried through SDT a couple of years later and work on crew for parts of two summers and one holiday houseparty. Though it´s wonderful to imagine Paul now drinking in satisfying drinks of the presence of the Lord (and probably tackling some practical project that needs to be completed!), his death leaves such an enormous hole in your lives. May God be your comfort, your strength, and your joy, as you continue on loving and serving Him here, as your husband/father/grandpa did so faithfully for so many years.
Praying for you during these exhausting and oh-so-hard days and weeks,
I'm very sorry to hear what happened. Your father sounds like a great person. This blog is a great idea and I like the direction that you seem to be taking towards the whole situation. Stay positive!
Dear Elaine and Family, Paul and Elaine have been faithful servents at Love In the Name of Christ here in Manistee. They have taught parenting and relationship classes at our Family Life Center program for several years now. I know that they have touched the lives of many families through our program. We at Love INC were deeply saddened by Pauls passing, although we know how much he loved and served our Lord and is in a much better place now. He will be deeply missed at Love INC, he was truely a man of God. We continue to pray for Elaine's recovery. At Love INC prayer is an integrul part of what we do and I will be adding your entire prayer list to our (love your prayer list by the way, what a wonderful way to celebrate his life). I look forward to seeing Paul again, in paradise, with our Father! Melissa Brooks
Paul always was one of the first smiling faces I'd see upon arrival at Cedar Campus as a student and then as a staff member. We grieve for his family and friends - rapid promotion for him!! You are in our prayers.
Thank you so much for putting this on the web and letting everyone know what happened. Paul meant a great deal to me in my Christian walk. God crossed our paths at Cedar, and God used Paul to teach me some lasting truths.
Paul had a great way of keeping his eyes on what was important while not loosing track of practical life. Two important events stuck with me through all these years: Once when a camper wanted to retur a book a few days after buying it, I thought it was a case of a quick read, and wanted to send the camper away. Paul asked her if there was some other book she would like to have, and made a trade. Paul gently showed me that the goal of dispersing the literature which furthered the Christian walk of the readers, was our real goal- the effect of running the store, was a good side-effect. It sounds so simple and logical but life gets quickly complicated and in the years since then, I have often thought of the point: what is the real goal of Christ here?
Then there were the famous (or infamous) Saturday clean-ups. When some crew members would complain about a toilet that was impossible to clean (those rust stains really would not go away this time!) Paul reminded us that when it gets tough, use more elbow grease. Before you wear yourself out, though, get a stronger chemical!
May God bless you, Paul's loved ones, with the peace that Paul ran the good race. May his service to our Master be an example to us all.
In this time of great loss, we are praying for you. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do.
“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” - Romans 8:26
You were "family" for me when I was fresh out of MSU and working for Dan Denk in Grand Rapids, and summers in the office at CC 1980 and 1981. Soooo many wonderful memories. Especially that sly grin Paul had. And then in later years when Tom and I came up to Cedar for sailing, manuscript, etc. we always made a point of visiting the Fosters. Our first year at Empty Nesters was the year you were moving to Onekama. Thank you for all you did for me in my spiritual growth!! Grace & Peace in abundance, Holly (nee Merrill) & Tom Rowley
We are shocked to hear about Paul’s death. We think of him as a very very kind, loving and honest person who did only good in this world. We pray for Elaine’s recovery and for you all in this very hard time.
We will send a letter to Elaine , but in the meantime please give her and the whole family our condoleances.
Thank you for sending us the email. We will certainly follow the family via the site.
We will not be present at the funeral, but we will be with you all day and pray for you.
It was August of 1984 that Paul and I served together at the very last Campus Christian Living (CCL). A program for incoming college freshmen at Cedar Campus. I was a college senior at the time and very interested in joining InterVarsity staff. That one week of working shoulder to shoulder with Paul in ministry was instrumental. Paul helped confirm my call as he modeled before me his love for God and these freshmen college students.
I joined staff in 1986 and developed a strong friendship and parternship with Paul while staffing and directing many SLT programs. My warmest memories will be leading the SLT students each summer in singing the "Happy Anniversary" song to Paul and Elaine each July. At the end of the song students would begin to tap on their water mugs and Paul and Elaine (already a few shades of red) would stand up and kiss each other.
We have lost a great one! I give thanks to God for his wonderful influence, his great integrity, his love for family and witness for Christ in the world.
May the Foster family and all who loved Paul know the deep peace and comfort that only God can offer at this very difficult time.
After reading some of the notes in the blog and to see so many expressions of love for Paul and his life of faith, love and service, it is not strange for me to find out that Paul also expressed his love and support for the student movement in Mexico (COMPA)
Some of our staff and students of Compa participated in Cedar Campus and met David and Erin. There they found out how Paul and his family spent a summer in our Campamento Citlalli, helping out in construction and repairs.
As a movement we a are grateful with the Lord for Paul´s life and his service which impacted many lives.
May the Lord comfort and hold the family in these moments.
We were stunned when we heard of Paul's sudden home- going, and then sick at heart about your loss. It all feels so unreal, and we have felt numbed by it all week.
We are praying for you, asking the Lord to give you great comfort in knowing the He is the resurrection and the life. May you all know God's gentle and gracious presence, His leading and enabling in all of the decisions and things to do.
Elaine, may you know Jesus' healing power and comfort every day. "When I awake, I am still with thee."
We are coming on Saturday and will be so glad to be with you.
Elaine and family-- Glenn and I are very saddened at the passing of Paul. Our first contact goes back to our college days at Fresno State. As our family attended many Family Camps at Cedar, we always enjoyed spening time with Paul and Elaine. You are in our many thoughts and prayers at this time.
So very sad to hear of the accident. We met Paul at the Parent Teacher conferences in the fall. I worked with him at Love INC in Manistee. He had such a gentle spirit. My heart has ached from the moment we heard the news- I will continue to pray for the healing love and comfort of the Holy Spirit as you travel the journey of greiving and loss. Much Love, The Corey's (Onekama school)
So many memories of Paul and Elaine from Ceder Campus. In many, many weeks spent at Cedar since 1982 I really connected them to my whole Cedar bank of memories. I remember Paul as a trainer, leader, Bible teacher, jack of all trades and occasionally as one who brought needed correction. I appreciated him very much and am very sad at this news. Prayers and thoughts are with the family.
Elaine, Sarah, Daniel, Elizabeth & David, I am thinking of you all, and am so sorry for your loss. Paul was amazing person and touched so many lives, and I hope that the memories everyone is sharing and the knowledge that he lives on in the ways he impacted our lives helps along with the thoughts and prayers and love of your friends and family help to support you now. With love and so many memories, Sharon (Kirby prev. Mumper) Clayton
"And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28)
Dear Paul,
You are loved greatly, and missed immensely, by those who work and serve at Cedar Campus. And although I did not have the pleasure of serving with you at Cedar Campus, I will cherish the breakfasts we shared together along the shores of Prentiss Bay.
Thank you Sir, for all the time, energy, and prayer you invested into the staff and ministry of Cedar Campus. It was well spent.
It is comforting to know that you are one of "those who loved God and was called according to His purpose"
I'm privileged to add my comments to the wonderful tributes here. My heart aches for your loss, and I pray you'll experience the comfort of family love and assurance of salvation in which Paul so firmly trusted.
When I think back on my time at CC ('82/'83) and my interactions with Paul, I think of a calm, patient demeanor enlivened by humor. What a perfect combination for all the emergencies of crew life. An example of this was my first real encounter with Paul, reporting about a fight that had occurred in the women's crew cabin! By his low-key manner, I wasn't sure he'd taken in the seriousness of the situation. He had, of course, and was just considering all the angles and choosing a prudent response.
Low-key, but effective. A wonderful counterpoint in an age of hype and hyperbole. I wish more people were like Paul.
Thank you for sharing your dad with all of us. He was kind and true, whether correcting a rec crew member ('93-4) driving a boat too fast or sharing stories about marriage that would prove encouraging years later. What a generous example for the church and the world.
We love each of you so much. May God bring you the peace and comfort that only He can give. We will be writing some memories about Paul ("Uncle Paul" to our three children) that we will be sending to you soon. For now, suffice it to say that he was truly a godly mentor, co-worker, neighbor and friend, and an inspiration and model to us all. He never pretended to be "perfect," but instead was sincere and honest, and a lover of family, friends and his Savior, Jesus. We will miss him immensely and promise to pray much for each of you by name as you adjust to having him in heaven and not on earth (except in all of our hearts). Please know that we love you and are here whenever you need a listening ear. You family is a great joy to us! In His Eternal Love, Marty, Pat, Emily and Joel Feldhake
We will not be able to attend the service tomorrow, but all of you will be in our thoughts and prayers. We have so many fond memories of the Foster family and wish we could be there to help celebrate a life well lived. We also grieve for your (and our) loss, but are thankful for our blessed hope. May the God of all Comfort sustain each of you in these days.
Dear Elaine, Sarah, Daniel, Elisabeth and David ! Much love and sympathy from Heidi and my mum. May the God of all comfort be with you at this time and always.
I thank the Lord for Paul, for his life, for his example as a faithful servant of the Lord and for the dear husband and dad he has been to you.
Greetings and comfort with the song "Find us faithful/cloud of witnesses" by Steve Green.
Greg and I are stunned and deeply saddened upon hearing of Paul's death. Paul was Jesus to us and our family all those years at family camp. Thank you for loving us Elaine. We trust that the God of all comfort will be at your side today and make his prescense known to you.
You are all in our thoughts and prayers today. We wish that we could be with the whole "cloud of witnesses" that will gather to remember Paul's life past and celebrate Pauls' life future. A good man and a good friend along the way.
My husband James really enjoyed getting to know Paul through the many chats they shared after school - mostly about wood, education, and the importance of parenting.
I enjoyed his sense of humor regarding the trials and tribulations of a career in education.
Generous with time and clearly a man with a strong moral compass, Paul was an upstanding citizen and and role model for his students.
Please accept our deepest sympathy.
James& Gretchen Eichberger- Kudlack Teachers, Onekama School
We have been thinking of you often today and wishing we would be at the service. But you have this wonderful written record from so many that you can treasure nad take strength from in weeks to come. The pictures have been wonderful! He clearly loved his grandchildren :-)! What a tribute it has been to read all these letters this week. I often say that "we never know what lives we touch and how" until an event like this. We Flemings only knew him in one context... Cedar Campus; others have known him in many others... church, teaching, family, grandpa, and so much more. One constant is that Paul was the same man of integrity to all who knew him. Only God knows the special blessings He has yet in store for Paul. God's special care to and for you all in the days and weeks ahead. Peggy and Larry Fleming
I have many memories of Paul from my childhood. My parents (Glenn and Linda Hoyle) were friends with Paul in college, and we saw them every summer at Cedar Campus when we attended family camp. My fondest memories are of Paul giving his book plugs at mealtime at Cedar. I always remember thinking that if Paul recommended it, then it must be a really good book! My prayers are with Elaine and the rest of the family. It was such a shock to find out about Paul's death, but I find myself grieving not for him (he's home, after all), but for his family that is left behind for a time. I have children now that are about the age of some of their grandchildren, and I'm not sure how I would explain death to my three year old if we were in the same situation.
I am thankful for the steady friendship of the Fosters and their service to Cedar Campus, my favorite place on earth. I am going to try to work in a tribute to Paul in my next novel (based loosely on my time at Cedar Campus)that will be out this November. I'm not going to use his real name, obviously, but anybody who knew him will recognize the reference.
Again, my very deep condolences go out to the Fosters during this difficult time.
Our family, as well as the Hope chapter would like to let you know that we are praying for you and your entire family. Curt and I were curious and wanted to ask if there will be any memorial funds set in Paul's honor. If you could let us know, that would be helpful. God's richest blessings Em, Curt Caden and Grant Wilson (as well as the Hope chapter) May 17, 2010 6:21 PM
I was so deeply saddened to hear of the accident that took Paul from us to early at church yesterday. It has been 10 years since I've seen you and yet it hit so hard.
I will never forget the summers that I spent at Cedar Campus with your family. They are now times that I share with my boys. And then to get married at the Union church with Paul officiating and Elaine playing the piano. Memories that can never be erased.
Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. He has touched so many lives that he will be remembered for so many years to come. We will continue to pray for healing.
God Bless, Susan (Trevarrow) and John Edington and family
It is great sorrow to learn of Paul’s death. I am so sad that my first “Serbian/American” friend Paul died. Over years I got to know Paul lived as a Serb to Serbs, an American to Americans... Paul lived according to the teaching "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus “Galatians 3:28 Oh how much he was patient with my limited English and helped me on my spiritual journey. Elaine may you be comforted by God who is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. Paul and Elaine love you Guta Cvetkovic
I received the sad news of Paul's passing only today from Becky Pippert. My, my. What a loss. Becky, Paul and I were part of the West Coast IVCF team so many years ago. Paul has always been someone whom I have admired for his steady, committed discipleship - in every way his life demonstrated that he was a true follower of Jesus. Only knowing that he and his Lord are together helps salve the pain of our, thankfully, temporary loss. Eric Miller in Nairobi emiller@maf.or.ke
One only has to look at a few of the posted photos to see that Paul was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. For Karla and I, he was a wonderful mentor and friend - along with Elaine of course! We were flattered and humbled when Paul and Elaine chose us to carry on their Family Camp ministry at Cedar Campus.
Paul was an excellent mentor during the transition - in spite of his illness. He made time for us every day - answering our questions, making gentle suggestions, offering advice. Paul's Christ-like influence can be seen still to this day at Cedar Campus. Don't believe me? Just look at the sound board in the Old Mill Point Meeting House! Paul's everyday, behind-the-scene servant's heart and hands guiding the way of would-be audio technicians.
For us, that is part of Paul's legacy. Many folks say that a man's legacy is his children, and to a great extent I agree. Paul leaves a marvelous legacy there. But all one needs to do is look around at the packed auditorium during his funeral to realize that Paul's legacy is much more than his immediate family. Paul was Christ’s light and salt to literally thousands from Detroit to California; Cedarville to Onekama; indeed around the globe! He persevered through some difficulties – leaning hard upon God at times – but fighting the good fight, running the race Christ had laid before him until God said “Welcome home, my good and faithful servant!”
Paul’s home-going was not anticipated by any of us confined to this sinful earth’s limited view. Thankfully Paul loved and trusted a Savior whose view is larger than ours ever could be! And thankfully Elaine loves and trusts the same Savior to watch over her now. Our prayers go out for her and the family during this time. God will not abandon you, and we will strive to come along side of you to support you as best that we can.
Your brother and sister in Christ… Mark & Karla Radius
I remember being skeptical when I heard some new family was going to replace the Schraders as year-round camp managers. Paul was so low-key that he was hard to figure out, and it took me a while to see that this was part of how he mastered the difficult task of running a tight ship operationally while being watched by so many people for any lapses into un-Christian behavior.
It's good to hear the wonderful stories written here about Paul. I haven't seen him in many years. I'm sorry he's gone. I hope that Elaine and the rest of the family, and the driver who was at fault, experience physical and emotional healing.
We just learned this past weekend of Paul's death and talked to Elaine. What a huge, huge hole there is without Paul here on earth for all of the Foster and Deal families as well as all of us whose lives were so greatly impacted by his! He has been so instrumental in our lives from our first Bible studies in Seattle when we were 25 until the present day as we viewed the pictures from Tokyo where we have been missionaries for 27 years! My oh my oh my do we miss him and are praying for all of you as you continue to grieve his loss. What a heritage he left for all of you! Paul and Elaine are key inspiring people in our lives!!! Love in Christ to all of you, Tom & Ginna Sloan
Hi Elaine, It's Aug. 2011 , I just got a letter from Denny Hull. He'd been thinking of Paul and searched the net . He found the obituary and was the first time to know of your ordeal. I'd been thinking of you two as my wife and I moved to Davison MI. last fall. Have been wanting to get over and see you. I'm so glad we got to see you in MN. a few years ago. I hope that you are fully healed by now and you will be in my prayers anyway! You probably won't see this at this late date but I'll say that I love you and all your family . Jon Strom
Great work. We at Addhunters shifted this service to a level much higher than the broker concept. you can see more details in our web page Property for sale For sale in pearl

Chuck Cusack.
Howard
We here in Mexico are in total shock. Paul and Elaine left spiritual legacy in our soil, impacting lives with their candor and service. They received Mexicans at Cedear Campus, and visitors from Mexico when we passed through. They always prayed for us, sent us kids one summer, and we had plans to travel to the Mid East, a TRIP of a life time, Greece, Turkey, Syria, Jordan and Israel. I´m so sad! We love our memories we have of them, and will be praying for Elaine and the children.
Liz and family,
I found out the news about your dad today from Kelly.
1 Cor. 15:54
Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled: "Death is swallowed up in victory.

Elaine and children,
The news of this accident and Paul's death felt like a punch in the stomach to us.
Dan and Sharon Denk

Loli Carmona

Chris (Marek) Gardner
Here is the link to the facebook page, in his memory:

May our gracious and ever-loving God grant you his peace now, tomorrow, and always,
Martha Manikas-Foster

Love from the Dickmeyers,
Rich, Biz, and Grace Dickmeyer
Much love, Mary Susan Kee (and Katharine)

To Elaine and the kids, and also the spouses and grandkids I've never met,
I am so sorry for your loss, but so elated for Paul that he is enjoying really being with Jesus and experiencing heaven.

Mrs. Foster and family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. We are all deeply saddened by the loss of Mr. Foster. He was such a great role model for my kids (and all the kids) at Onekama School and at Church of the Brethren.
We will miss him,
The Laws Family
My thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time.
I grew up with the Deal and Joseph families in the same time frame as Elaine. I only got to know Paul through occasional conversations at Onekama COB or family events. I quickly learned that I liked Paul's gentle and caring approach to life. It is sad that everyone has to leave their Earthly existence. At least we have the memories that live on in our minds, and my memories of Paul are all good ones.
I also pray that Elaine will make a quick and full recovery.
With sympathy and love,
Toby Emrick
Dear Fosters,
I'm so sad!!

Elizabeth and family,
I am so very sorry to hear of your loss.

Mike Vaal
Elaine and Family,
We are grieving with you all in the sudden accident and death of Paul.
Love and fond memories,
Peggy and Larry Fleming
Joe and I are so saddened by the news of Paul's passing. We have such wonderful memories of spending time with Paul and Elaine at Cedar Campus. Paul was truly a servant and loved to hear news of ministry happenings at Wayne State University with international students when we were there during the 80's.
We are praying for Elaine's full recovery as well as knowing God's care during this time of grief.

Dear Fosters,
Paul was passionate about teaching, bless you all to the heavens.

Praying for you and your family Elizabeth.

Your friend,
Jay Mumper
PS. I'm so sorry I forgot to include Elizabeth in my first post! I'll blame old age for my negligence!
Liz, Dave, Erin, Elaine--
My prayers are with all of you.
Love in Jesus,
Michelle Perrigo (Meesch)
Oh Dear Elaine & Family,
I am so sorry for the deep loss of Paul!
May the deep love and presence of Jesus hold you.
love in the King,
Alyce t & David Reimer
We are so sorry to hear of your loss & will pray for your family. Glad to know your Dad is at complete peace with our beautiful Lord.
Elaine & Family,
Angela and I are shocked and saddened by this news.
We will always cherish the wonderful times we spent together starting with meeting you back in the 70's in Seattle when Paul was on IVCF staff.
Regrettably we probably can't make the memorial service, but our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Dave, Erin, and Foster Family,
We grieve with you at the loss of your father.
With sympathy,
Dave and Grace Biskie
Dear Elaine,
My heart breaks for you, knowing all that you have yet to face.
David & Carolyn Leimeister & Family
For all the saints who from their labours rest,
Who Thee by faith before the world confessed,
Thy name, O Jesus, be fore ever blest.
Hallelujah!
Thou wast their rock, their fortress, and their might;
Thou, Lord, their captain in the well-fought fight;
Thou, in the darkness drear, their one true light.
Hallelujah!
O may Thy soldiers, faithful, true and bold,
Fight as the saints who nobly fought of old,
And win, with them, the victor's crown of gold.
Hallelujah!
O blest communnion, fellowship divine!
We feebly struggle, they in glory shine;
Yet all are one in Thee, for all are Thine.
Hallelujah!
And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long,
Steals on the ear the distant triumph song,
And hearts are brave again, and arms are strong.
Hallelujah!
But, lo! there breaks a yet more glorious day;
The saints triuphant rise in bright array;
The King of glory passes on His way.
Hallelujah!
From earth's wide bounds, from ocean's farthest coast,
Through gate of pearl stream in the countlass hoasst,
Singing to Father, son and Holy Ghost.
Hallelujah!
Dennis and Carolyn Darch
Verse 6 also
The golden evening brightens in the West;
Soon, soon to faithful warriors cometh rest;
Sweet is the calm of Paradise the blest.
Hallelujah!
We could tell Paul enjoyed working with his wood shop students. On May 13th he asked me to post an article and photos of their accomplishments. We are all going to miss him. ~Barb Eldridge

We knew Paul in the early years in Fresno before Cedar -- so sorry to hear of his passing, especially the manner of it. Our hearts go out to Elaine and the family.

Dear Elaine and the kids,
My Cedar Campus / Paul Foster experience began with Campus Christian Living right out of high school, then carried through SDT a couple of years later and work on crew for parts of two summers and one holiday houseparty.
Praying for you during these exhausting and oh-so-hard days and weeks,
Angie Hunter
Elizabeth and family,
I'm very sorry to hear what happened. Your father sounds like a great person. This blog is a great idea and I like the direction that you seem to be taking towards the whole situation. Stay positive!
Thoughts are with you and your family!
Dear Elaine and Family,
Paul and Elaine have been faithful servents at Love In the Name of Christ here in Manistee.

Hey Elaine (and family),
I will not be in town for the visitation or the funeral, but you all will be in my prayers.
I was very sad to hear the news. I know Paul was very loved in the Michigan District.
Elaine, I am praying for your physical, emotional and spiritual healing.
God Bless you.
Dear Fosters,
In this time of great loss, we are praying for you. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do.
“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”
- Romans 8:26
Love,
Paul & Laura Haske
Best regards,

The Bonner Family sends their thoughts and prayers.
Tim Peterson
After reading some of the notes in the blog and to see so many expressions of love for Paul and his life of faith, love and service, it is not strange for me to find out that Paul also expressed his love and support for the student movement in Mexico (COMPA)
Some of our staff and students of Compa participated in Cedar Campus and met David and Erin. There they found out how Paul and his family spent a summer in our Campamento Citlalli, helping out in construction and repairs.
As a movement we a are grateful with the Lord for Paul´s life and his service which impacted many lives.
May the Lord comfort and hold the family in these moments.
We are praying for you.

Elaine and family--
Glenn and I are very saddened at the passing of Paul.
Elaine, Sarah, Daniel, Elizabeth & David,
I am thinking of you all, and am so sorry for your loss. Paul was amazing person and touched so many lives, and I hope that the memories everyone is sharing and the knowledge that he lives on in the ways he impacted our lives helps along with the thoughts and prayers and love of your friends and family help to support you now.
With love and so many memories,
Sharon (Kirby prev.
In His Presence and His Peace,

Dear Elaine and family,
I'm privileged to add my comments to the wonderful tributes here.

Elaine, many prayers for your recovery.
Sarah (Harger) Becking

Heidi from Germany
Dear Elaine and family,
Greg and I are stunned and deeply saddened upon hearing of Paul's death. Paul was Jesus to us and our family all those years at family camp. Thank you for loving us Elaine. We trust that the God of all comfort will be at your side today and make his prescense known to you.
Love,
Greg and Barb Terrien
Elaine and Family,
You are all in our thoughts and prayers today. We wish that we could be with the whole "cloud of witnesses" that will gather to remember Paul's life past and celebrate Pauls' life future. A good man and a good friend along the way.
Grace and peace,
Cam and C.K. Anderson
Dear Elaine and Family,
My husband James really enjoyed getting to know Paul through the many chats they shared after school - mostly about wood, education, and the importance of parenting.
I enjoyed his sense of humor regarding the trials and tribulations of a career in education.
Generous with time and clearly a man with a strong moral compass, Paul was an upstanding citizen and and role model for his students.
Please accept our deepest sympathy.

Blessings,
Karin (Hoyle) Ballstadt

Our family, as well as the Hope chapter would like to let you know that we are praying for you and your entire family. Curt and I were curious and wanted to ask if there will be any memorial funds set in Paul's honor. If you could let us know, that would be helpful.
God's richest blessings
Em, Curt Caden and Grant Wilson (as well as the Hope chapter)

Elaine and family,
I was so deeply saddened to hear of the accident that took Paul from us to early at church yesterday.
God Bless,
Susan (Trevarrow) and John Edington and family
Dear Fosters,
I am so sorry to hear the sad news of Paul’s passing. His life certainly was a blessing to many people! Your family is in my prayers.

Dear Fosters
It is great sorrow to learn of Paul’s death. I am so sad that my first “Serbian/American” friend Paul died. Over years I got to know Paul lived as a Serb to Serbs, an American to Americans... Paul lived according to the teaching "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus “Galatians 3:28
Oh how much he was patient with my limited English and helped me on my spiritual journey.
Elaine may you be comforted by God who is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.
Paul and Elaine love you

Elaine, I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of Paul. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.
Love in Christ to all of you,
Tom & Ginna Sloan
Hi Elaine, It's Aug. 2011 , I just got a letter from Denny Hull. He'd been thinking of Paul and searched the net . He found the obituary and was the first time to know of your ordeal. I'd been thinking of you two as my wife and I moved to Davison MI. last fall. Have been wanting to get over and see you. I'm so glad we got to see you in MN. a few years ago. I hope that you are fully healed by now and you will be in my prayers anyway! You probably won't see this at this late date but I'll say that I love you and all your family . Jon Strom
